Dead Boy Summer rolls on! For their first companion zombie movie, Aaron and Derek discuss 1985's punk horror comedy "The Return of the Living Dead" written and directed by Dan O'Bannon. They talk about how the copyright fiasco of "Night of the Living Dead" led to the creation of this movie, how Dan O'Bannon became attached, and the trope additions it introduces for the modern zombie. They also get into the clever humor mixing punk culture with gore horror, the franchise history, and many other topics about the film. Derek thinks this is a way of life! Aaron wants brains...for the PAIN!

To kick off the zombie summer series, Aaron and Derek welcome back friend of the show Kelly Sherman to discuss 1968's horror masterpiece "Night of the Living Dead" directed by George A. Romero and written by John Russo and Romero. They talk about the history of the zombie and how this movie transformed the concept into the modern cinematic trope. They also tackle the horror themes in zombie stories, Duane Jones casting and amazing performance, the copyright and distribution issues, the nature of the independent production, and many other topics about the film. Kelly is the boss up here! Derek and Aaron, incredible as they may seem, are not the results of mass hysteria.

Shelby Scott, creator and host of the horror storytelling podcast "Scare You To Sleep," returns to talk 2014's found footage supernatural horror flick "The Taking of Deborah Logan" directed by Adam Robitel (in his directorial debut). They discuss the found footage experience in horror movies, the realistic portrayal of Alzheimer's disease juxtaposed with possession, and the amazing performances by Jill Larson and Anne Ramsay. They also talk about plot holes and other shortcomings as well as many other aspects of the movie. Derek starts projects. Aaron bounces in the middle of them. Shelby is on the switchboard.

Episode 87: The Babadook

This week, Aaron and Derek tackle 2014's psychological horror film "The Babadook" (Dook! Dook! DOOOOOOK!) written and directed by Jennifer Kent in her directorial debut. They talk about how the movie analyzes the fears and themes of grief, parental frustrations, isolation, and abuse. They also discuss the influences that went into creation of the film and Mr. Babadook, how they shot an intense flick with respect to Noah Wiseman's age, and many other aspects of the movie. Derek thinks you are nothing...YOU'RE NOTHING! Aaron can't get rid of the Babadook.

Episode 86: Cannibal Holocaust/Ferox w/ special guest Andrew Parker

Sometimes, happy accidents happen. Due to a communication mix-up (most likely Derek's fault), the Spoop Bois with guest Andrew Parker (of "Crypta" podcast and "Ghosters" podcast) discuss 1980's "Cannibal Holocaust" directed by Ruggero Deodato, 1981's "Cannibal Ferox" directed by Umberto Lenzi, and the Italian cannibal horror genre as a whole. They compare and contrast the movies from an exploitation and storytelling stand point, and they examine the idea of the jungle itself being horrific. They also talk about what makes these films art, the insane production and marketing, the legal troubles and bans, among many other aspects of the movies and genre. Andrew wants to invite you to dinner. Aaron believes in the survival of the fittest. Derek contemplates who the real cannibals are.

This week, the Spoop Bois Aaron and Derek tackle 1960's British psychological horror classic "Peeping Tom" directed by Michael Powell. They talk about the differences between the book and the movie, the satire of hyper masculinity, the themes of identity, and how the response has evolved over the years. They also get into Christian Bale's portrayal of Patrick Bateman, reality vs delusion, among many other aspects of the flick. Derek has to return some videotapes. Aaron is a big Genesis fan. There is an idea of a V.P. Morris; some kind of abstraction.
